The Review: TAVEUNI PALMS FIJI

Flying Over Vanua Levu

Just came back from our holiday in Taveuni Palms. Our trip started with a very stressful flight disaster.. AirPacific from Hongkong was just a mess the plane left without us and without even informing us about the flight schedule changes, it was a nightmarish start we flew to Sydney then got into a flight to Nadi.. we lost one night because we initially booked for 5nights at the resort and it was just sad. This was my Partner's birthday Celebration!

Tony (owner of Teveuni Palms) was really great in assisting us with our flight issues and he was hands on in making sure we get our next flight to the Resort. Vinaka Vakalevu Tony!. When we landed at Matei Airport Babu the airport rep. picked us up he gave us a little info about the island he is a very nice fellow, was also surprised that the resort is just 1minute drive (or less) from the small airport. I really thought that the planes would be disturbing but since they only have 2 flights coming in everyday and the planes are so small you will never notice.

We were welcomed by the entire staff they were singing a Fijian song, a very nice touch and Jimbo (the cute giant dog) was also there.. Sarah gave us a tour.. I was breathless the Villa is ginormous, we've been to many resorts around the world and this is fabulous.. It looks better than we expected, the photos in the internet could never justify that awesome feeling the first time we saw our villa.. The pool was a bit narrow but good for swimming. Two Bedrooms two toilets two outdoor showers.

Taveuni Palms is on the Sunset side of the island and if not because of the clouds, guests would really enjoy the burst of colors when the sun goes down. 

The breakfast choices were ok, they gave us cheese platters and cold cuts in the morning and you can actually request for anything that you need just let them know there's a menu, and the herbs, fruits, vegetables, are organically grown in their own garden. thats why everything is so fresh. The staff takes time to prepare the table every single meal. The effort and the detail is just lovely.

Food was always good, i'm not sure with my partner but I really enjoyed eating at Taveuni palms, Teila comes after bfast to organize activities for the day, plan dinner or whatever we wanted to do. I gained 6kilos in 5days LOL

We also have our own spa pavilion we have two treatments in there and the girls we're just awesome... 

We only have some minor problems with the laundry service, our shirts were not ironed not folded and that was really not a 5 star, my white under shirt was not the same white color when it came back, clothes smells clean but if the sleeves of our shirts were rolled up they came back in the same state, rolled up & crumpled. we have expressed this issue to the management and hope this one is fixed. Twice we did no get towel replacement at night, and we ran out of toilet paper and eventually found out before we left that there's a pile of toilet papers under our sink. we would've known.. other than that this place deserve their awards! You can never find something like this anywhere in the world! PRIVACY, GREAT HOSPITALITY LOCATION.. WOW

Teila gave me a cooking class and I took home with me the recipe. Teila was so sweet I had tears in my eyes when we left. You guys made me cry that farewell song you were singing was just sad! I miss all of you now!

Post Holiday Blues

I'm back in Philippines after our Holiday in Fiji... I am currently experiencing this Post Holiday Blues, this feeling of being drained and the feeling that I have exhausted all my happy Hormones..

The jet-lag the memories of that bloody Flight disaster they are all kicking in... I'm back to reality and about to get sick I think, and there's this dark cloud above my bed... :-(

I am also thinking about Andre now he's back in Cambodia, I admire him so much... I know it was too much for him especially during the flight crisis, all I did was to hug him I wish I could have done more to comfort my guy. He was very upset, but who wouldn't be?. It was the longest night of my life, I know that all he wanted was for us to have a smooth stress free holiday and the airline just destroyed our supposed first-night, I want to hug Him now!.. I would never find a person with such a heart that would go with me to the edge of the world and say " I love you so much" 500times.. 

I know he's reading this and I want to tell him again that I will go with him anywhere anytime, and if shit happens I will stay with you in a roofless hut in the middle of a jungle I don't care.

The Cooking Class with Teila in Fiji

We love the staff here at Taveuni Palms They're the friendliest people in the world! so warm and always smiling always ready to assist you anytime... A few Nights ago we had Fish Kokonda as a starter during dinner it's more like a Fijian Version of Ceviche or the Kinilaw in Philippines... Now I was so surprised that our Villa Manager, Teila was the Chef parang nanay lang si lola mo, she's the one who taught me how to make Kokonda... It's very simple and here's the Recipe I will share to all of you!

600g white Fish (use fish with firm flesh)

1 cup lemon juice

1 and 1/4 cups of coconut cream

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 small chili finely chopped

salt

Marinate fish for two hours with lemon juice, strain and wash in cold water. Add in the marinated ingredients, salt and pepper to taste and a tsp of lemon juice for taste. Add the coconut cream..

Actually Teila has this kitchen secrets and this may look simple but she actually squizzed the coconut with lime leaf  added tomatoes and spring onions to the coconut milk and kept it cold in the deep freezer.. so Excited to try it back home..

We also made some Roti for our Fish Taco with Papaya lime salsa

"Gulong ng Palad" is Famous in Fiji

Oh my Gosh this is just a little info for Filipinos.. I was approached and asked by Fijians and some of the resort staff when they realized that I am a Filipino.. They asked me if a Know a movie with Luisa and Carding! I stayed in Sheraton in Nadi and it's where i first encountered a fan of this Tele-series. I don't watch this sort of things I stopped watching telenovelas more than a decade ago and I am not updated about any of them. LOLs I don't know who's Luisa and Who is Carding and this really put a smile on my face I blushed LOLs because I can't seem to give them an answer. But anyhow I tried to asked them what's the Tittle and the series is by the way in Tagalog with sub-tittles in English!.. It's Like Those Korean Series some Filipinos buy in the streets of Manila. 

One Fijian Lady Told me that her mother and half of her Family would watch an entire DVD the whole night up to the next morning LOLs and of course the series never failed to make them cry. 

I grew up in a country where even after a stressful day people still want to go home and watch drama on TV like as if they did not have enough drama in their own lives. hahaha maybe it's also the thought that there is always hope in life, like most of the stories in tv dramas aired in Philippines every series has a happy ending.. Filipino people need that, they need hope chos Kever sa Hope dahil Marlboro ang yosi ketch.. Dahil dyan here's a Photo of Gulong ng Palad! Sikat ang mga lola mo detey sa south Pacific.. As I told you in my earlier post we got left behind in Hong Kong.. The plane left without even telling us that the Departure time have changed. This is not my first time to travel and Andre has been to almost every corner of this planet.. To be left behind by Air Pacific is just unacceptable. this is the first time that we almost collapsed when we found out that the plane departed already! I wanted to think that it was just a bad dream but it was real.. God I almost died.. by the way as of now there's still no talk about a refund.. I hate AirPacific staff in HongKong!

Now there's a story behind why I am here in Sheraton Denarau in Fiji. LOLs

We missed our plane to Fiji in HongKong, no we did not missed it but that bloody flight left without us.. I was really disapointed with how this thing was handled by the staff in HongKong. we were flying business class and it's just terrible that we were not informed of the departure time changes when we checked in.. So we hopped into Cathay Pacific to Sydney Australia, upon Arrival we can't stop asking eachother why are we in sydney Airport? LOLS i's was a nightmare you know and a very very expensive nightmare... we'll we missed our flight to Nadi and ofcourse we missed our next flight to Taveuni island where we have our fabulous resort so Now we stayed one night in Sheraton Denarau in Nadi
